Liberty advances to soccer semifinals

The Liberty High School soccer team is back in the semifinals.

Liberty defeated Burlington-Edison, 4-1, Nov. 13 to advance. Katelyn Godfrey scored twice, while Makenna Carr and Amanda Hemmen each added one goal.

The Patriots next play Squalicum, the defending Class 2A state champions, 8 p.m. Nov. 20. If Liberty wins, the Patriots play in the title game 4 p.m. Nov. 21, if they lose, they will play for third place at noon Nov. 21. All games are at Shoreline Stadium.

Football loses to Hockinson

A 42-21 loss to Hockinson ended Liberty’s season Nov. 14.

The Patriots kept it close through the first quarter, which ended in a 7-7 tie. But Hockinson went on to score 28 unanswered points through the next two quarters.

Liberty outscored Hockinson 14-7 in the fourth quarter, but the game was mostly out of reach at that point.

It was the Liberty football team’s first state appearance since 2010.

Volleyball makes early exit

The Liberty volleyball team did not make it past the first day of the Class 2A state tournament in Lacey. Losses to Ridgefield and Othello ended the Patriots season Nov. 13.

Patriots playoff roundup — Football advances to state

The Liberty football team defeated Renton, 35-20, to advance to the Class 2A state playoffs.

Liberty is the District 2/3 No. 4 seed. The unranked Patriots will travel to play No. 6 Hockinson, of Brush Prairie, in the first round Nov. 13 or 14. It is the Patriots’ first state appearance since 2010.

Liberty won the bi-district soccer tournament after defeating North Kitsap, 3-1, in the title match Nov. 7. Read more

Roundup: Skyline, Issaquah football teams move on to state

Skyline routed visiting Todd Beamer, 54-14, in a district football playoff outing Nov. 6, and will return to the Class 4A state playoffs after a year’s absence. Read more

Girls soccer

The Liberty High School soccer team outscored opponents 8-1 last week, going 2-0 to improve its season record to 7-1-2.

Cameron Nelson scored twice in the Patriots 4-1 win over Sammamish Oct. 6. Makenna Carr and Sydney Abel each had one goal, while Jordan Hemmen picked up three assists and Sydney Willoughby had one.

Two days later, Kimee Chavez, Kalyn Gill, Maddy Mak and Hemmen scored in the Patriots’ 4-0 win over Lake Washington. Kelli Anderson, Abel and Willoughby each had one assist.

As of press time, Liberty was in second place in the Class 2A/3A KingCo Conference standings with 16 points. Mercer Island was in first with 18 points, while Bellevue was just behind Liberty with 15 points. Read more

The Liberty High School girls soccer team dropped its first match of the season Oct. 1, falling to an undefeated Mercer Island squad, 1-0.

Earlier in the week, the Patriots defeated Bellevue, 2-0. Freshman Cameron Nelson scored in the 23rd minute, assisted by Maddy Mak. Sophomore Makenna Carr added an unassisted goal in the 59th minute. Goalkeepers Sydney Argosino and Jasmine Curl combined for the shutout.

As of press time, Liberty’s 3-1-1 Class 3A/2A KingCo Conference record, good for 10 points, had the Patriots in third place behind league-leading Mercer Island and Bellevue. Read more

The Liberty football team improved to 3-0 on the season with its 38-27 come-from-behind win over Interlake Sept. 18.

After heading into halftime down 20-10, the Patriots outscored Interlake 18-7 in the second half to clinch their first league win of the year.
